![]() ![]() Note: This is again for testing purpose which I did and following same steps may not be recommended in production work loads. Lets remove the signature from the device and check it again: ~]# wipefs -a /dev/sdc UUID: TUWt1Z-4tZm-yxHz-pS2r-n9DF-IZP9-dPuAzW dev/sdc: UUID="TUWt1Z-4tZm-yxHz-pS2r-n9DF-IZP9-dPuAzW" ~]# wipefs /dev/sdc Physical volume "/dev/sdc" successfully ~]# blkid /dev/sdc Now, if we make the /dev/sdc as a pv and then run the commands 'blkid' or 'wipefs' it would print with device signature as shown below: ~]# pvcreate /dev/sdc ~]# blkid ~]# wipefs ~]# wipefs /dev/sdaĠx1fe dos # wipefs /dev/sda1 ![]() Check out the man page before using this command. NOTE: Be careful when running wipefs, when this command is run without any parameters then it would just print the device signature but when run with '-a' would erase signature or metadata. If there is no such signature printed then one could consider that the block device is not being used/utilized and which is un-used. The other approach to validate it by using either "blkid" or "wipefs" command, which prints device signature as well and which eventually confirms that the block device is being used. Yes, the "lsblk" command would pull all block devices and list them but doesn't print if that is being used or not. This for a script to clean up unused disks from the server , Here sdg is free but how can I view unused disk only (any other command ) ?Ģ- In some case disk being used Oracle or drbd detached disk, that also showing in lsblk as free, is there any way to find out actually disk unused ? ├─rootvg-bigfixlv 254:11 0 10G 0 lvm /var/opt/BESClient I am trying to find out unused disk, is there any way to find ?
